Future Gallery is proud to present Shift a summer group exhibition featuring new work by Jennifer Chan (CN/CA), Matt Goerzen (CA), Katja Novitskova (ES), Jaakko Pallasvuo (FI), Brad Troemel (USA), Amalia Ulman (ARG).
Things are collected and organized. Layers of meaning are superimposed. Objects, images and texts are taken out of context and smashed together. They are forced onto each other. They are uploaded and exhibited to be played again. We are influenced by the everyday circumstance of being online with others. This effects artistic practice. Digital imaging tools and methods of circulation are put to use in a highly subjective way. The artists in the show don’t glitch, their use is not in defiance to the platform. Their strategies are not those of far-distanced critique. What happens instead is a sort of inverting. A shift from the inside to the out. A turning upside down.
